Individual counselling or psychotherapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist, based on nurturing trust, protecting client confidentiality, and providing a non-judgemental safe space.

My Approach

  • Whatever your life struggles or therapy goals, an integral part of your therapeutic journey is feeling listened to, understood, and validated with your experiences. This enables a more robust exploration of your thoughts, emotions, situations & coping mechanisms. I strive to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all clients through active listening, validating experiences, and adapting my approach to meet the diverse needs of my clients.
  • I approach each client as a unique individual, considering the multiple intersecting identities they hold, such as race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and ability. This intersectional lens allows me to understand how these identities shape my clients’ experiences and challenges. By recognizing the complexity of each person’s situation, I can offer more tailored and effective support.
  • I encourage open dialogue about issues of oppression and identity. As an immigrant woman and minority, I am an Anti-Oppressive informed therapist and recognize and acknowledge systemic inequalities, such as power imbalances, that impact individuals. I acknowledge various forms of oppression such as colonialism, racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and homophobia and strive to provide a space where all voices are heard and valued. My goal is to support clients in understanding how these societal structures impact their lives and well-being.
  • Within individual therapy, this exploration is facilitated in a manner that safely allows the client to go beyond self-awareness to a state of processing and self-reflection – which is important for gaining insight and self-discovery. This approach involves the mind-body connection and identifying pain and sensations associated with stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
  • I incorporate effective coping strategies from the start including mindfulness breathing and relaxation techniques that work together with therapeutic interventions to facilitate change and increase confidence in the present moment and long-term healing and empowerment.
